Student Report:
- Debby Morgan reported that January will be a quiet month for Student Council as everyone navigates final exams and culminating assignments.
- The holiday concert in December was a great success as teachers performed in addition to students.
- Upcoming activities:
- Black History month activities including a spotlight on food and culture, daily announcements organized by weekly themes
- Semi-formal – March 6 at the Royal Venetian
- Relay for Life Rally – to introduce it to Grade 9 students
- Introduce another food drive – perishable items from December were given to Maple Leaf Public School
Staff Report:
- Course changes for semester 2 may be difficult as there is not a lot of flexibility with courses
- Thursday events
- Open badminton from 4:45 to 6
- Basketball with Play Forever – 6-8
- Volunteer hours available for students who wish to help. The team is looking to have art and dance sessions in the future.
- Newcomer event was a success, but non-newcomers thought they couldn’t attend. Will focus on an International Night in the future to include as many students and families as possible.
- February 3rd – School Board event at the school
- Spring Market Event – April 24
Fundraising Discussion:
Fundraising activities in the fall yielded $986.50. Based on the initial premise of the activities in conjunction with requests for funding received, the funds were unanimously allocated as follows:
- $500 – to help with start-up costs for baseball
- The balance to be distributed evenly between Best Buddies and Prom.
PRO Grant Discussion:
- $800 - $80 for refreshments, $720 for Swag Parent Engagement (25 String Bags, 25 Mugs)
- Date: April 3 from 6:30 – 8:30pm– Parent Teacher Interviews – Have a Council table set up with activities to promote engagement with the school and the community – Swag to be used as prizes
- Can incorporate house colours, DJ a Food Drive etc.
- Details to be finalized at the next Council meeting on February 10
- Council decided to get a tablecloth for now - maybe a banner at a later date.
